The Power of Consistency

We always hear that consistency is the key to success, but why is that? Why can't we start and stop when we want and be successful? It's because any real change takes time. As much as we like to believe that we can get results fast, most of the time that is just false and clever marketing.

I was never a fan of sticking with something. I get bored really quick, and am always chasing the next shiny object. I have started and stopped so many things, never getting good at anything. I have learned that each time you start and stop, you start over again from the beginning and you never have the chance to build on your past work. You flush your results down the toilet.

As humans, we are not good at planning long term. We want instant gratification. If you want different results, you must do what others will not. You must decide to stick to your goal and not give up until you reach it. In the beginning you are not going to see the change, but under the surface it's happening. This is where most people give up. Most people give up too soon, and right before everything is about to change.

When you decide to be consistent, you build a habit. It becomes part of your life, and you feel guilty when you miss a day. Once it becomes a habit, you won't have to force yourself to do it. It becomes automatic and pleasurable. Once it becomes fun and you start seeing results, you won't want to stop.

People who are consistent rise to the top of their field. Athletes get paid big money for their skill gathered over years of work. Singers get paid big money because the years of singing for free got their voice to the point where not they get paid for what they do. Inconsistent people get paid very little.

If you stay consistent over a long enough period of time, there is nothing you can't accomplish. Pick a goal, and decide to stay after it until you achieve it!
